Yeats Smoky Pub

I live in the vicinity of many a pub: Gillane's, John Henry's, JD McGillicudy's, PJ Henry's, the Oakmont, Peabody's, McCloskeys... the list goes on and on and on and on. I could go to one a week and probably not run out for a year. Yeah, there's quite a few. On Friday night, I checked out Yeats Pub, which is actually a pretty cool place, unfortunately tucked between a tire store and a NAPA auto parts store on route 30. Do not let their horrendous website fool you. The place is actually quite decent.


The place is fairly narrow and long, with the bar pretty much taking up the entire left hand side. It's quite an impressive bar, with way too many bottles of booze and plenty of taps. They have quite the beer selection. The rest of the place is all for dining, and is pretty much made up of all booths. It actually looks like a library you would find in some old Irish castle or somthing. They have a huge chalkboard in the back for all their daily specials. You get free bread and tomatoes. Both are good.


T got the caprese salad to start (I think that's what it was), which had mozzarella, tomato, some grilled veggies, and of course, basil, with a balsamic dressing. I had a little taste, it was yummy.

They have maryland crab soup as a regular item, and had an italian bell pepper and chicken soup as a daily special, but I decided to go with french onion soup. I've had much better french onion soup. The onions were thinly sliced and they were all tangled up in a big mess, so it was difficult to eat. The cheese was also just a slice that was plopped up on top and melted, so it was hard to manage. And it wasn't very hot. French onion soup should be scalding, no? It wasn't terrible, but I'm going to have to pass on it next time.

T had been raving about the crabcake sandwich, so of course, that's what he got. And oh yeah, it was good. He wasn't making it up.

I was quite indecisive that night, so I just went with a burger. A very large burger, mind you. A very large angus burger with cheese. So big that I only ate half. And you know, I'm usually one to clean my plate. They're a little overzealous with the lettuce there. One small piece will do, but they give you a giant piece big enough to 5 burgers. Oh, and the fries? Really frickin good. Seasoned, crispy, and hot.

The service here is good and attentive. For a Friday night, it was fairly empty. Could have been that it's Easter weekend. Too bad we weren't there on a Saturday night, they have karaoke. Haha. On Thursdays, they have Quizzo. Sadly, since it's in the burbs, you can smoke here. It seemed like everyone else there was a regular, and they were all heavy smokers. By the time we left, we stank like ashtray. Blech. When this place goes smoke-free, it'll be unstoppable! They also have plenty of TVs all over the place, so we were able to take in all of the March Madness hoopla.
